This is Twelve
How We're Celebrating

Twelve years ago today in 2013 The Redhead Project kicked off with Lindsey Weaving’s photoshoot in New York City.
Keith and I couldn’t imagine the longevity, scope and reach of what we were creating then.
But it was through shoulder-to-shoulder, old-fashioned connection five months later that the project and its community officially launched.
By July, Keith had photographed seven redheads, all through word-of-mouth. I had an idea: we should host a launch party to introduce the project and the first seven redheads (and their images) to inspire others to participate. We asked our industry and personal friends to bring their favorite redheads to a personally catered cocktail party with a fun red menu theme: red hors d’oeuvre, drinks and dessert, including mini carrot cake and mini red velvet cupcakes.
It was standing room only for 70 guests in a New York City apartment.
It was a harbinger of great things to come, and proof of the power of storytelling to inspire and to create a community that now includes:
509 redheads photographed in studio
66 redheads photographed remotely, worldwide (in four continents: North America, South America, Europe and Australia). (Redheads in Africa, Antarctica and Asia, please represent in 2025!)
Fifteen 12-year-olds photographed so far have shown us how twelve is done:
How We’re Celebrating
Photoville or Bust
We’ve applied to Photoville New York City to exhibit The Redhead Project. We envision a walkthrough of the project’s evolution including a timeline of the many photographic and media coverage milestones from February 18, 2013 to present day.
Redhead Project Day 🤞🏻
We’re applying to create a National Day for The Redhead Project. The spirit of the day? Don’t judge a book by its cover. Tell your unique story!
Wish us luck!
Calling all Twelve-Year-Olds!
Know a redheaded 12-year-old who’d enjoy sharing their unique story with us? Please share this letter with their parents, the site redheadproject.net and we’re on Instagram too: Redhead Project Redhead Project Virtual
We’d love to photograph at least 12 more 12-year-olds this year!
And of course, redheads of all ages can participate wherever they are in the world, every day of the year. Reach out and refer your favorite redheads to us.
Please share this letter.
Thanks to all our followers and fans of the project.
Thanks so much for reading, and see you back here again soon.
